Country Bends – Lick of The Week #17

by | April 10, 2020

This week Lee Chamberlain makes his Lick of The Week debut with some country-style bends within chords. The lick is based around chords I, V and IV in C major and takes smaller triads from common barre chords. Watch out for how you approach the bends as the lick requires the string to be bent in the opposite direction to what you might be used to.

This is an interesting one that shows how techniques like bending, which are usually reserved for lead playing, can also be incorporated into chords. This is something that is sure to add more flavour to your own chords and can also be applied to other techniques such as hammer-ons and pull-offs (a la Jimi Hendrix), or even slides and vibrato. Try experimenting with the chords in this lick as well as the ones you already know and see what techniques you can incorporate into them.

If you want to learn more about the chords and techniques used in this lick, you can find them in level 4 of our online guitar syllabus.
